Mancetter Chicken Broiler Appeal

28 February 2017

A Public Hearing into the appeal against refused planning permission for a chicken broiler to be erected on land at Crown Stables, Mancetter Rd, Mancetter recently took place over the two days of February 15th and 16th.

Under the Inspectorate’s representative Dr. Roger Catchpole, the vast majority of those two days was taken up with a very detailed examination of the environmental reasons for refusing the application. The appellant had assembled a team of four legal and scientific specialists to promote his appeal. The experts commissioned by NWBC in defence of its refusal were equally forensic and knowledgeable. The Inspector made a site visit on the afternoon of the second day. At the time of writing, the outcome has yet to be announced.

Local Green Party member Margaret Hughes was one of the number people submitting evidence upholding the refusal. She admits that the environmental issues, to do with emissions, fumes, pollution and noise were much too technical for her capabilities to be able to summarise them here. As a representative of Atherstone Civic Society, her role was to give an account of the heritage and archaeological reasons against the development. NWBC had already agreed the appellant’s evidence, based on two reports he had commissioned from Thames Valley Archaeological Services (TVAS), that the broiler poses no threat to those assets. The paper Margaret presented challenged that evidence, asking for a re-consideration.
