Riding Centre Scandal

25 April 2017

In 2013, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council had a bitter dispute over a lease with the Nuneaton & North Warwickshire Equestrian Centre, which for decades had been providing riding for disabled children. In the end the matter had to be settled by the courts. In 2014, the courts found in favour of the riding centre. At that time the cost to the council, including officer’s time but excluding any compensation payout, was around £14,266. It seems a council officer has only just agreed the compensation payout in a confidential officer decision. We suspect the total cost to the council taxpayer will be somewhere around £30,000. We will try and find out more and ask if the taxpayer is also covering the legal cost of any Labour councillors responsible for this mess.
